KL Rahul makes a comeback as Shreyas Iyer sits out due to a back spasm in the Asia Cup Super Fours match between India and Pakistan.

India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2023

In the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours match between India and Pakistan, some notable changes were made to the Indian playing XI. India's captain, Rohit Sharma, announced these changes after Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, won the toss and chose to field on a sunny day in Colombo.

One of the changes in the Indian lineup was forced due to an unfortunate incident. Shreyas Iyer, who had recently returned to the team after a long injury layoff, had to miss the match due to a back spasm. This setback was particularly disappointing as Iyer had played only two matches in the group stages of the Asia Cup.

To fill the void left by Iyer's absence, India welcomed back wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul. This marked KL Rahul's return to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury sustained during an IPL 2023 match on May 1.

Another significant change for India was the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead, in place of Mohammed Shami. Bumrah had taken a break for paternity leave but was now back in action, strengthening India's bowling attack.

On the other side of the pitch, Pakistan decided to stick with the same playing XI that had secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their previous Super Fours match.

Here are the revised playing XIs for both teams:

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (replacing Shreyas Iyer), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah (in place of Mohammad Shami).

Pakistan (Unchanged XI): Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (Captain), Mohammad Rizwan (Wicketkeeper), Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.

With these changes, both teams were ready to face off in a high-stakes clash in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours.
