ICC Announces U19 World Cup 2024 Schedule: India to Start Against Bangladesh on January 14

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the complete schedule for the U19 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4. Sixteen teams, including 11 full members and five qualifiers, will compete in a total of 41 matches for the coveted championship.

ICC Announces U19 World Cup 2024 Schedule

Participating Teams:

The tournament will feature five teams that earned their World Cup spots through regional qualification pathways. These teams are Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland, and the USA.


Venues:

Matches will be held at five historic venues located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. 


Venues for the U19 World Cup 2024:

The U19 World Cup 2024 will be hosted at five historic cricket grounds in Colombo, Sri Lanka. These venues include:

1. P. Sara Oval

2. Colombo Cricket Club

3. Nondescripts Cricket Club

4. Singhalese Sports Club

5. R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium


Crucial Stadium Selection:

The iconic R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium has been chosen as the venue for both Semi Finals on January 30 and February 1, as well as the Final on February 4.


Opening Day Matches:

The sporting event will commence on January 13 with three matches. The host nation, Sri Lanka, will take on Zimbabwe at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. Meanwhile, England, the 2022 finalists, will face Scotland at Colombo Cricket Club, and New Zealand will compete against Nepal at the P. Sara Oval.


India's Opener:

India's U19 team will kick off their campaign on January 14 by playing against the 2020 champions, Bangladesh, at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.


Super Six Stage:

Starting from January 24, teams that progress from the group stages will enter a new Super Six stage. This stage will consist of two groups of six teams each, competing to determine the semi-finalists and subsequently, the finalists.


Group Details:

In Group A, India will compete against Bangladesh, Ireland, and the USA, while Group B includes England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland. 


Group C Teams:

Group C in the U19 World Cup consists of the following teams:

  • Australia
  • Sri Lanka
  • Zimbabwe
  • Namibia

Group D Teams:

Group D in the U19 World Cup consists of the following teams:

  • Afghanistan
  • Pakistan
  • New Zealand
  • Nepal


ICC's Perspective:

Chris Tetley, who is responsible for planning ICC events, shared, "The ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup has a history of revealing future cricket stars to the world." He highlighted that famous cricketers like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and Angelo Mathews kick-started their cricket careers by playing in this tournament. The ICC is thrilled to bring the competition back to Sri Lanka after 2006 and provide fans with the opportunity to watch the matches for free.


Warm-up Matches:

Before the tournament, each participating team will play two warm-up matches between January 7 and January 11. These warm-up matches will take place at four of the five tournament venues.
